Mario Carretero was born and in Tetouan (Morocco), where life gave him a mix of cultures. He is Emeritus Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundations and also from Harvard, Stanford and La Sapienza (Rome). His work has been translated into French, Portuguese, Japanese and Basque. He published Constructing Patriotism. Teaching history and memories in global worlds and Palgrave Handbook of Research in Historical Culture and Education. It is common to find him writing in airport lounges, as well as on his IG, @mariomcarretero, even though his favor place is any mediterranean island.
