Jesús de la Villa is Professor of Greek Philology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is also currently president of the Fédération Internationale des Études Classiques. He is a member of the Board of the Conseil International de la Philosophie et des Sciences Humaines, an advisory body to UNESCO for the Humanities. From 2013 to 2023 he was president of the Spanish Society of Classical Studies and was a founding member of the International Committee of Ancient Greek Linguistics.
His research activity has developed mainly in the field of Greek and Latin linguistics. His main interests have been syntax and semantics, both from a synchronic and a diachronic point of view. To a lesser extent, work has also been done in the field of Greek literature and classical tradition or reception. The main contributions, with reflection and impact at an international level, have been in the field of sentence structure in Greek and Latin, verbal categories, particularly tense and aspect, and subordination. This research is reflected in 187 scientific publications, plus others currently in press; in 60 invited lectures or conferences; in 96 interventions in congresses.
